Welcome to another exciting season of concerts at Music Mountain! (View our brochure!)
Music Mountain enters its 79th season as a premier center for intimate chamber music concerts with the internationally acclaimed musicians and programming that has made it a destination for classical music lovers since 1930.
The 2008 season continues to support Music Mountain’s core mission with 16 chamber music concerts and intensive chamber music seminars. The Chamber Music series presents established string quartets with dedicated musicians committed to the teaching and performance of chamber music. These artists are invited to come to Music Mountain from all over the world and represent a broad range of traditions and styles. As is the case each season, some performers have played at Music Mountain for many years and others will be making their Music Mountain debuts.
In addition, Music Mountain will continue its popular Twilight Concerts on Saturdays at 6:30 PM with eight jazz concerts and two choral performance, both with returning artists and some artists new to Music Mountain.
The theme of the 2008 season, “Borrowed Melodies” will present music in which a composer has used his own or someone else’s theme in a part of the work being played. A surprisingly common and fascinating practice, we will offer examples from Haydn’s the “Emperor” Quartet to the Schubert “Trout” Quintet, Bernstein’s “Glitter and be Gay” and many others.
As in past years, 2008 will offer a varied selection of community events and special concerts. The Free Family Fair returns on Saturday, August 16 for the third year. All are welcome.
Ticket sales and the generosity of Music Mountain’s friends, which include the artists who play here at far below their customary fees, enables us to continue to bring superb music played by distinguished and dedicated artists.
